Auxiliary Badges, Early Badges
The Sheriffs' Department is in the process of creating a
presentation showing the History Behind The Badge.  I have
taken several pages from this presentation and placed them on
the website.  The majority of information and pictures originated
with this website.  The presentation has been done in a very
professional and creative way and is worth looking at.
When it is finalized, it will be available to see on this website.
I have taken the page on the Mounted Posse and the Sheriffs'
Boys Band.  Others will be added as I find time.
Comments are appreciated at:  mike@badgehistory.com

Other County Badges
Obtained a nice Councilman, Rolling Hills Estates, and an old
Lifeguard Lieutenant bear top.

First Woman Deputy
Added some pictures of women in uniform from
years ago.
I'm going to change this button to:  Female Deputies.

Sheriff's Explorers
Added a new button.  I will be adding information and
more pictures as it comes available.

Entire Site
Combined some pages to place all information and photos
regarding female deputies on one page with its own button.
I'm starting a tribute to female deputies and need some input
from the ladies of pictures and information.

Explorers
Added a whole new link to the history of the Los Angeles
County Sheriff's Explorers.
This program has provided an excellent stepping stone towards a
career in law enforcement and preparing our youth for
a better future.
Most of the pictures and information comes from the collection
of Darrell Klasey who became an explorer in 1969.  His
collection of paperwork and pictures chronicles the steps he had
to take to become an Explorer and his early experiences at
the Norwalk Station.

Junior Deputies
During research I discovered a magazine article pertaining to the
Junior Deputy program under Sheriff Biscailuz.
This article dates from May 1940.

Miscellaneous
I have come by a source for the window star decals used by the
Department in the 1950's.  I have included a picture of a star and
a couple pictures extracted from the TV series Code-3 which
played for awhile around 1956.  These pictures show the stars
placed on the rearmost windows of '55 or '56 Fords.  The
Department cooperated in the making of this series and all the
deputy uniforms and vehicles are as they were in use by the
Department.
If interested in the stars, email me and I'll make you a deal!
These procedes will go towards supporting this website and
maybe help aquire something new for my display.

Old Photos
Courtesy of longtime police historian and police vehicle
collector, F. Iverson, I was able to copy some pictures of LAPD
Officer Voy Kay Apt.  Apt befriended Mickey Cohen and
established a longtime relationship with him.  I was able to copy
some letters written by Cohen while in Federal Prison in Illinois,
to Apt who was retired by this time.  Nothing too exciting but to
handle letters actually written by the infamous Mickey Cohen
was quite a treat.  The link to the letters and pictures of Officer
Apt is under the pictures of Cohen on the "Old Photos" page.
