My source is the late Dr. F. W. Emerson. His writings are worth placing here for
future posterity and are appropriate for this website. His writing is of a style not
seen for many years as you may notice. He wrote this history in the year 1940.
Please keep that in mind while reading his references to the "present".
As of now, I'm only including Sheriffs from around 1900. Later I will chronicle the
history of Los Angeles County Sheriff's from the beginning, 1850.
