Originally Sheriff's Sub-station #6, Newhall's Sheriff Station was opened
August 26, 1926 on the corner of 6th and San Fernando Rd. It handled all the
law and order business from Chatsworth border into the Antelope Valley.  The
station was open 24 hours a day, with at least two men on duty all the time.  
The original Sheriff's force included deputies Howard, Fox, Ernst, Stockwell,
Knuss, Nester and Aikens.  The first captain was J.E.B. Stewart.

Los Angeles County Courthouse. Built
on the corner of Temple St. and
Broadway, commonly referred to as the
"Red Sandstone Courthouse", in 1891.
The Long Beach earthquake of 1933
caused considerable damage, leading to
its demolition in 1936.  Elements of the
clock, which was salvaged from the
previous county courthouse of 1861,
were removed from the tower.  They
were incorporated into the east facade
of the present county courthouse,
opened in 1959. 1800's picture.
