The Sheriffs Relief Association of Los Angeles County
was organized in February, 1924.  At that time, a small
group of employees got together and decided they
should provide some way to help sick and disabled
deputies and to give assistance to widows and families
of those who died.
That year - 1924 - the first fund raising event of the
Association was held.  It was in the nature of a public
barbecue, and these annual barbecues and shows were
held each year thereafter until 1941.  After the World
War II began, barbecues were discontinued and other
types of events were looked for.  In 1945 the first
Rodeo, called the "Sheriff's Annual Show - Rodeo - and
Congress of Rough Riders" and was held at the Los
Angeles Coliseum, home of the 1932 Olympics.
